Charles Seely

Charles Seely is a British entrepreneur and early-stage technology investor. Born in the United Kingdom, he spent approximately 20 years working in the United States, primarily based in San Francisco, before returning to the UK. His career spans sales, company formation, and venture capital investment, with a focus on early-stage technology companies in North America and Europe.

Charles Seely is the founder and principal of Esos Ventures LLC, a Delaware-registered advisory and investment firm through which he conducted the majority of his investment and advisory activities. He is also the co-founder and chairman of Pensar Learning Inc., a Delaware-registered educational software company. Over the course of his career, Charles Seely has been involved in a broad range of technology sectors, including enterprise software, quantum computing, robotics, and education technology.

Early Career

Charles Seely began his professional career in the 1990s at TCS Inc., a telecoms software company, where he held the position of Senior Sales Executive. He subsequently served as Director of Business Development at Interglobe plc, a subsidiary of TCS Inc., during a period of growth from early stage to approximately $30 million in revenue, prior to its sale for approximately $150 million.

In 1999, Charles Seely founded Brandfever, a pan-European internet company focused on selling excess inventory of sports and fashion brands through flash sales. He assembled a management team and raised several million dollars in debt and equity funding before stepping down as CEO in 2000.

Investment Career

From 2012 to 2020, Charles Seely served as the sole Venture Partner in Silicon Valley for Real Ventures, a Canadian early-stage venture fund and Canadian Venture Capital Firm of the Year in 2015 and 2016. In this capacity, he advised portfolio companies on entering the US market and raising capital from American investors.

Between 2014 and 2021, Charles Seely held the position of Head of US Investments at SGH Capital US, a European holding company. During this period, he led investments in over 60 early-stage companies based primarily in Silicon Valley. Several of these companies subsequently reached valuations exceeding $1 billion.

From 2016 to 2020, Charles Seely acted as an advisor to Amity Ventures, a San Francisco-based venture capital firm, where he co-conceived Amity Growth Ventures. Notable investments from this period include Talkdesk, Carta, and Snyk. He also served as lead investor in special purpose vehicles for Honey, which was acquired by PayPal for $4 billion, and Ouster, which exited at $1.4 billion.

From 2019 to 2021, Charles Seely served as Senior Advisor at Cambridge Quantum, a quantum computing company, through its merger with Honeywell Quantum Solutions to form what was described as the largest standalone quantum computing company in the world at the time.

Charles Seely joined Hoxton Ventures, a London-based venture capital firm, as Partner in October 2021. During his time at Hoxton Ventures, he led investments including CuspAI, a $30 million seed round focused on AI-driven material design. He held this position until 2025. He has also held board or advisory positions at Fabrica AI, PACT, Slooh, and Metrolyrics.

Companies Founded

In 2009, Charles Seely founded Esos Ventures LLC, a Delaware-registered advisory and investment firm. Esos Ventures served as the principal vehicle through which Charles Seely conducted his investment and advisory activities over the following decade.

In 2015, Charles Seely co-founded Pensar Learning Inc., a Delaware-registered educational software company. The company’s stated clients include NASA, for which the platform provides STEM educational content to students and K-12 teachers. Charles Seely served as CEO of Pensar Learning Inc. from 2015 to 2019, and subsequently as Chairman. He is currently working on an undisclosed project based in the United Kingdom.
